I've got Dropbox installed in four places:
- Slackware work desktop
- Slackware home desktop
- MacBook at work
I noticed some anomalies, so I ran some tests.
I added a file to the Dropbox directory on one machine and watched to see if it appeared on the others.
- work desktop - appeared everywhere
- home desktop - appeared everywhere except work desktop
- work MacBook - appeared everywhere except work desktop
- iPhone - don't know how to add files to this one
So the work Dropbox will broadcast files, but not recognise that new files are available. If I restart the dropbox daemon, it will sync up and the files appear. It's the same OS as the home desktop, same version of Dropbox, same startup script. Same everything.
I did some Google research, and checked all the permissions of the directories. Identical. I deleted the $HOME/.dropbox directory and restarted the daemon, and it asked all the questions again and recreated the directory, but the end result is the same.
The desktop and the Macbook are on the same network, attached to the same switch, using the same proxy.
I will keep researching and try to find a solution to this.
