I play a lot of time-and-material management type games on the iPad. They have puzzle rounds that last 5 to 10 minutes, and are tricky enough to keep me interested. I've played the three Roads Of Rome series, the three Northern Tales games, the two Viking Saga games, All My Gods, and the five Island Tribe games. I continue to replay them as they are fun. Sometimes I reset them and start all over again. Anne plays the three Adelantado games. These are all from Realore Games. They are great. But Island Tribe 5 has just come out and I've been playing it, and I am disappointed. Not with the puzzles or the gameplay. That's still as much as ever. It's something else.
So far, every game has bonus rounds. If you can finish the goals within the first time limit, that opens up the bonus rounds which are usually much harder. So it's something to strive for. You get better through repetition, you achieve the goals in good time, and it unlocks the bonus levels. It's fair. It depends on your skill, it's merit based.
But Island Tribe 5 has ruined that. Doesn't matter how good you are, you can't get the bonus levels unless you log in with Facebook. No skill involved, just log in with Facebook and you unlock the bonus levels. Fuck Facebook. And fuck Realore for this. I've tossed a lot of money their way with all these games so far, but I won't be spending any more with them. I'll spend my money on games where you have a fair arrangement that depends on merit and skill, and doesn't involve Facebook.
